Feeling Worse, Healing Better

Mental/emotional cleansing works like natural medicine, which often requires that symptoms worsen before they improve, especially if our bodies are used to standard Western medicine. Symptoms APPEAR worse, but this is really dis-ease rising to the surface -- uncovered from years and layers of suppression.

How often have we taken cough medicine for coughs, which keeps down the dis-ease the body is trying to throw out? Or rubbed on a skin ointment to have pimples and rashes pop up somewhere else on the body? Our bodies work constantly to throw out toxins, but many of us, unaware, try to mask or stop the odors and excretions that block the body’s waste (products that stop us from sweating, coughing, having diarrhea).

When we encourage the body’s immune system by natural means, the body goes to work, pushing out poisons -- which may mean more sweat, more stool, more gas, more skin eruptions, more aches and pains. Smelly and terrible as it may be, the body is actually throwing out the old and preparing for the new.

And so it is with all of life, as we mature through cycles of growth. When we say we’re ready for change deep inside ourselves, the Universe goes to work, pushing out poisons (that which no longer serves us) -- which may mean more anxiety attacks, more crying fits, more arguments, more bingeing. Stressful and frightful as it may be, we are in the process of throwing out the old and preparing for the new.

Many try natural medicine and as the symptoms worsen in the beginning stages, some quit and return to the familiar. Many of us say we are ready for change, and as the Universe stirs up the storms within us, some of us decide to...?
