Permission to Be Lazy

So often we pressure ourselves to keep pace with the whirlwind of the Western working life and neglect our connection to nature, which teaches us the rhythms of rest and activity. In colder weather, much of nature hibernates, preparing for spring’s wild growth. Nature needs this rest as a part of her fertility. We also need rest as a part of our energetic, creative cycle -- but how many of us feel entitled to stillness and quiet?

The three conditions that most tax the Liver are FAT: Fatigue, Anger, and Toxicity. Too much of one increases the likelihood of the others (think of how grumpy children are without sleep), which eventually give way to symptoms such as vision weakness, muscle cramps and spasms, constipation, easy bruising, easy bleeding (hemorrhages), hemorrhoids, and constant fatigue.

Rest and detoxification help. Release of anger helps enormously. Energy medicine such as acupuncture helps reverse symptoms by strengthening the body into once again performing its normal, healthy functions.

Unfortunately, many of us do not surrender to our need for rest until we are exhausted or dis-eased. When we’re forced into prolonged repair mode, we lack the energy to move forward with our creative, entrepreneurial ideas. When we obey our hibernation instincts, we replenish our resources for later bloom…

Our roots are then stronger, our blossoms brighter, our fruits deliciously sweet.
