The Responsibilities of Husbands & Wives

When I speak about acupuncture channels working as “Husbands & Wives” inside our bodies, I sometimes wonder whether I’m talking about acupuncture or real-life relationships.

The organ channels each work in elemental pairs, a yin organ married to a yang organ. The Wives of the body, or the more yin organs, do most of the processing, filtering, and creating (Spleen, Liver, Heart, Lungs, Kidneys) while the Husbands, or the more yang organs, mostly eat and take out the garbage (Stomach, Gall Bladder, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Urinary Bladder).

In Thothetic Medicine we usually focus on healing the Wives first, for if the Wives are healthy, they’ll take care of their respective Husbands. We honor the Husbands, though, for how they protect the Wives. Usually the Husbands will take on dis-ease first when the household is in trouble. For example, the Urinary Bladder Husband will have an infection to warn of the body’s internal imbalance of the Kidney/Urinary Bladder marriage. If the marriage itself is not healed, the Kidney Wife may become dis-eased after repeated infections of the Bladder.

A recent male student said, “No wonder our bodies and the world have become so sick! The men aren’t taking out the garbage!”

While I laughed at his insight, I did have to point out: “But women can take the whole house down when we lose control of our emotions!”

Along with their functional jobs, the acupuncture Wives take care of our emotions. When we hold on to negative emotions, the Wives direct more energy into the emotions instead of their biological responsibilities. Then Husbands, Wives, and our bodies begin to fall apart. Ah, the secret is out: We can create vibrant health by taking care of our Wives!
