Dis-Ease & the Acupuncture Energy Meridians

Conventional (allopathic) Medicine has thousands of different names for thousands of different dis-eases. In Thothetic acupuncture, we have twelve different explanations for dis-ease: the imbalance of the twelve acupuncture organ energy meridians (shown in their paired elemental relationships):

  • Kidney/Urinary Bladder
  • Lung/Large Intestine
  • Heart/Small Intestine
  • Pericardium/Sanjiao
  • Spleen/Stomach
  • Liver/Gall Bladder

Think of the energy meridians as hard-working, multi-tasking individuals, such as ourselves, each juggling its own set of responsibilities. When the energy meridians are tired, under-nourished, and stressed, they, like us, don’t handle their responsibilities very well. One thing after another falls apart – until they, like us, receive enough rest, good nutrition, and balance. Then they are able to juggle their tasks once again, with ease.

The Responsibilities of Husbands & Wives

The chart below outlines the energy meridians and the systems and tissues they govern, shown in their elemental partnerships. When energy meridians lose their balance, dis-eases pop up again and again in the systems they govern. The key to healing is to balance these meridians so they are strong enough to evict the dis-eases themselves.

To help laypersons remember the yin/yang relationships, Dr. Yee notes jokingly that the yin/female organs, or "wives," do most of the hard work, while the yang/male organs, or "husbands," take care of eating and emptying the trash (that is, governing the digestive and excretory organs). In healing we usually bring the wives back to balance first, as they are the more important organs of the body. When the wives are doing well, the husbands naturally follow.

Pay attention to the emotions attached to the different elements. When we are overwhelmed by a particular emotion, the attached energy meridians become stressed and lose increasing control of their responsibilities.

Acu-Points at Work

In Hang-On’s Self-Help Healthcare Club, you are carefully guided to understand how your physical symptoms translate into specific energy meridians and the emotions involved. In a combined healing and learning experience, Hang-On’s wellness professionals coach you to find and stimulate acu-points on your body specific for your self-healing.

Hang-On uses a holistic approach to acu-point stimulation. At Hang-On, we recognize that dis-ease often occurs when we give our vital energy away to emotional stresses and external circumstances. The 365 acu-points act as antennae all over the body, that, when stimulated, call one’s vital energy back into the body and back into the particular depleted energy meridians. This often requires several balancing sessions as we call our energy back home, again and again, and re-train the body (and mind) to use this regained energy for self-healing.

It is imperative that we recognize how both physical and emotional stresses damage our bodies. Acu-point stimulation helps to re-balance the body’s energy systems best when accompanied by proper rest, exercise, hydration, nutrition, and emotional release.

Note that when you know how to map key acu-points on your body, almost any tool can be used to stimulate these points. Healers past and present have used magnets, light, sound, heat, cold, electricity, suction, pressure, and of course, needles. You can learn to use several of these tools safely and effectively through Hang-On’s Self-Help Healthcare Club or one of Hang-On’s wellness workshops.
